| Or, to put it another way: it’s fun to chew over the implications of the new iPad hardware for developers. But the real meat will come with iOS 6, Android 5, Windows 8 and other software in the months to come. How The iPad 3 Will Change App Design. | This sounds like faint praise, but the biggest news for developers from the unveiling of Apple’s new iPad may be the company’s decision to lop £70 off the price of the previous model. | PSFK |

In a bid to maintain a dominant market share, Apple is said to be working with component suppliers in Asia to test a new tablet computer with a smaller screen.
People familiar with the situation have said the company is looking to broaden its product pipeline amid intensifying competition.
Unnamed officials at some of Apple’s suppliers have been cited by ‘The Australian’ as saying that California-based company showed them screen designs for a new device with a screen size of around eight inches, and said it was qualifying suppliers for it.
Apple’s latest tablet, the iPad 2, comes with a 9.7-inch screen. It was launched last year.
One person said the smaller device will have a similar resolution screen as the iPad 2. Apple is working with screen makers including Taiwan-based AU Optronics and LG Display of South Korea to supply the test panels, the quoted person said.
Apple, which works with suppliers to test new designs all the time, could opt not to proceed with the device.
The move comes as Apple is reportedly preparing to unveil its third-generation iPad on March 7. That device is expected to have a higher resolution screen than the iPad 2 with a similar screen size, according to people familiar with the matter.
Analysts believe that a smaller tablet device from Apple would make good business sense as it would broaden its portfolio and help it better compete with rivals such as Samsung Electronics and Amazon.com.
Samsung Electronics sells its Galaxy Tab iPad competitor in three screen sizes: a 7-inch, an 8.9-inch and a 10.1-inch. Moreover, Samsung’’s 5.3-inch Galaxy Note and Amazon’s 7-inch Kindle Fire have been selling well too.
Apple has successfully followed this approach of launching different sizes fir the same product in the past too. It released its iPod music player in a number of shapes and sizes over time. On the other hand, Apple seems to be following a The company has taken a unique strategy with its iPhone, releasing one design at a time.
The iPad represented more than 61.5 per cent of worldwide tablet shipments in the third quarter, down from 68.3 per cent in the second quarter, according to market researcher IDC.
In the quarter ending in December, Apple hit new sales and profit records based on runaway holiday demand for its iPhone and iPad devices.
Earlier this week, the company’s share price topped $500 a share for the first time in its history, and has in fact gained about $100 since the beginning of 2012.

Apple will announce an iPad 3 version capable of running on AT&T and Verizon Wireless fourth generation LTE networks, at a launch event in the first week of March, according to a report published by The Wall Street Journal.
Apparently, where LTE is not accessible the iPad will automatically switch to using a slower available network.
As the report points out, Verizon has now managed to reach almost 200 million people with its 4G network, being the first out of the blocks with LTE. AT&T’s high speed network meanwhile, is gradually catching up, providing coverage for 74 million people by the end of 2011.
It is not clear at this point whether Apple will partner with the other major US carriers, Sprint and T-Mobile for the iPad 3 deal, both declined to comment when approached by the WSJ.
Previously, Apple has favoured AT&T, the first carrier that included the iPad in its offering to subscribers. In 2010 when the original iPad was launched just AT&T sold the iPad which came with Wi-Fi and 3G support. One year later, when the second generation iPad hit the market, Apple’s tablet was available on both Verizon and AT&T networks.
The inclusion of LTE connectivity has been rumoured in a number of previous reports, along with the most anticipated feature – a 2048×1536 pixel display, as well as a quad-core A6 processor.

iPad 3: Which Features Do You Want?
The iPad 3 rumor mill is ramping up, with the latest report that Apple’s newest tablet offering will feature 4G connectivity.
Many expect the next iteration of the iPad to be unveiled at an Apple event in early March, though Apple has yet to announce such an event. Behind the latest wave of rumors come reports that resales of current iPad products are shooting up. If you’re an owner of an iPad looking to upgrade, now might be the time to resell — though at a risk, of course, as we don’t actually know when the new device will arrive.
Of course, you could spend all your time trying to keep up with the latest Apple rumors and still not actually know anything. Nevertheless we enjoy the endless speculation. I asked Mashable‘s expert staff what features they want to see and what they hear users say they’re craving the most in a new iPad. Our poll below reflects the most common and most realistic expectations.
There were some more outlandish responses, too, for ideas that are unlikely to appear in the next iPad. For example, Pete Pachal suggested he’d like to see a bendable body, solar charging capability, and handwriting recognition. Not to be outdone, Matt Silverman suggested…cupholders.

iPad 3: The Buzz
Apple’s iPad3 is all the buzz in technological news these days. Due for release in March of this year, the tablet is likely to feature a number of exciting upgrades and improvements.
According to numerous reports, the iPad3 will feature an LTE screen unlike any tablet available on the market. Information coming out of Apple’s Chinese manufacturers has started rumors that Apple ordered 65 million displays for iPad3,showing that Apple is setting its sights 2 times higher for purchases of the new tablet in comparison to its older brother, the iPad2 (which Apple is said to have ordered under 40 million displays for). There are 264 pixels per inch on the display which indicates that the dual-camera will be much improved over those on the iPad 2 and iPad 1.
The iPad 3 will also contain the iOs5 system and a new top of the line dual core processor. Siri (or a substantial part of Siri) is also likely to make an appearance.
Regarding the appearance of the new iPad 3, there has been no clear confirmation of what exactly it will look like. According to Fix-Iphones.com, who has a source at China Inside, they were
given “exclusive” photos with blurred content of the updated tablet. Not much for one to make a good assessment, with the site also claiming that, “there were subtle changes.”
Simply put, Apple is making no confirmations regarding the upgrades that the iPad 3 will come with, however industry insiders expect them to be significant. With a new
camera, LTE display, megapixel advances, and the power of Siri, it is likely that those upgrades will be enough to convince most Apple fanatics to buy–at least, that’s what the company is hoping for.
Reports from a variety of sources conclude that the look and feel of the new iPad3 will be thinner and lighter, because that seems to be the ongoing trend with Apple products in general.
AT&T, as well as, Verizon Wireless will be the two service providers to offer LTE speed when they start selling the new iPad 3. Of course the iPad3 will also have full wifi capability just like its 2nd generation model.
Much of the information based on fact regarding the iPad 3 is scarce and hard to come by. There are numerous reports with speculations of what the updated device will include, however, no clear answer as what to expect is provided in detail. The facts simply are as follows: the device will have a better camera, a better processor, a precisely clear screen, and parts, if not all, the capabilities that come with Siri.
As this is Apple Corporation’s newest baby and upgraded device, they have remained surprisingly hush on the device not streaming much on their homepage or information sites. They appear confident that the iPad 3 upgrade will blow the numbers out of the water in comparison to the iPad2’s release in 2010.
At this point in time the only clear and precise way to get all the actual answers to our iPad 3 question is to wait for its release date which is rumored to be on March 7th, 2012.

March Announcement for iPad3 | Daily iPhone Blog
The next iteration of Apple’s popular device is now speculated to be announced for a March 7, 2012 announcement. Read more.
dailyiphoneblog.com/2012/…/march-announcement-for-ipad3…
Multiple sources are claiming that the next generation iPad will be announced on Wednesday, March 8, 2012. Some possible features include a 2048×1536 Retina display, quad-core Apple system-on-a-chip and 4G LTE connectivity.
While everyone waits in anticipation for the important date, changes to these details are always possible, even if information is provided by reliable sources. Conflicting reports have been emerging whether the current dual-core processor was simply being optimized, or whether they would go full out and utilize the quad-core, is still the top most question on everyone’s mind.
The other big mystery is whether it will support 4G LTE out of the gate or add support for it at a later date. Rumours of a better camera as well as other features are all strictly speculation at this point and no one will really know until the big day next month.
iPad 3 Release Date Features Confirm Retina Display; 4G LTE News and Mar. 7 …
iPad3 Feature: The Retina Display
By: Spacelab Research Staff
February 18, 2012
With the excitement of the iPad 3 release date buzzing comes the news of a confirmation of a new iPad 3 feature: the Retina Display. Also included for the iPad 3 release date are a Mar. 7, 2012 announcement in San Francisco and the debate around rumors of 4G LTE wireless capabilities with Verizon and AT&T, along with the usual questions around how Siri, iTunes, the vaunted new A6 processor and iCloud will play in.
Visit the Spacelab Guide to Streaming Music Sites
It can now be confirmed that iPad 3 features include the high-resolution Retina Display, at 2048×1536, according to the ironically named MacRumors: “MacRumors has now been able to obtain one of these iPad 3 displays and examine it under a microscope in an effort to determine whether it is indeed an ultra-high resolution Retina display. Physically, the purported iPad 3 display is the same size as the current iPad 1 and iPad 2 display at 9.7″ in diagonal, and looks quite similar to the naked eye” reads the news.
iPad 3 Features
So iPad 3 features can now be confirmed to include the Retina Display. The iPad 3 Retina Display news seems to have a grip on the Apple community right now, and is certainly exciting if it proves to be true. An improved use of Siri is likely and should play a large role in the future of the iPad 3 and iPhone 5. iCloud has barely started, so things like iTunes and iTunes Match and iCloud should play a prominent role on an iPad3 release, as the increased need to to store music, movies and TV shows alongside documents in a cloud-based setting becomes more of a basic necessity, rather than ummm…. pie in the sky. The use of a quad-core A6 processor is still in the iPad rumor phase but could allow for enhanced capabilities around HD video and allow for quick switching from iPad app to iPad app. The idea of an A6 processor seems likely, whether it’s quad-core or not seems to be a parallel issue. It’ll also be interesting to see how Apple upgrades iOS for the iPad 3, and what new features will be offered. AllThingsD casts doubt on the use of Microsoft Office on the iPad 3. This week’s news of OSX Mountain Lion portends an across the board upgrade for Apple operating systems and could forecast an iOS upgrade with the iPad 3 release. There has also been talk of the iPad 3 replacing the MacBook Air, but that’s still in the rumor phase and is difficult to see.
iPad 3 Specs
The use of 4G LTE wireless on the iPad 3 is possible and might be served through Verizon wireless and AT&T.Recent iPad 3 rumors have included an HD camera in front, an 8 megapixel camera on back; other iPad 3 specs include the iPad Mini or iPad 4, it’s believed to be have a Fall release date. The new iPad Mini screen is reportedly 8 inches as opposed to the 9.7 inch screen on the current iPad. Technology Business Research analyst Ezra Gottheil told Computerworld that the iPad Mini has been in the pipeline for a while and will happen, but it’s still hazy at this time. We’ll chalk this up as iPad 3 rumors for now. The iPad 3 price is tough to gauge right now, it’s anybody’s guess.
iPad3 Debutes Launch Next Month
Apple preparing for iPad3 debut launch next month
February 10th, 2012 at 8:14 am – Author Carl
According to reports on The NextWeb, Apple are preparing for a debut launch of the iPad 3 as early as next month. They quoted unnamed sources close to the company. Apple are apparently ‘in crunch mode’ to line up applications to demonstrate the new flagship tablet computer.
Apple spend some time hand selecting the best applications to showcase the new technology. This selection process is apparently moving along at an ‘increased rate’ with a focus placed on the new super high resolution Retina display.
Apple are sending the best applications they can find to their advertising agency, TWBA/Chiat/Day, for potential inclusion in upcoming TV advertisements promoting the tablet.
The iPad 3 is said to be launched in San Francisco in the first week of March, according to AllThingsD.
The iPad 3 will be a major upgrade to the Apple tablet, unlike the second version which was a little thinner with dual core processing power. The new iPad 3 will not only feature a faster chip but a better graphics processor and super high resolution Retina display of 2048×1538 pixels. This will move the pixel density into the same sector as the iPhone 4S.
